what’s in a name?

What's that “unplain jane” at the top of the page? My studio name is a wink to my middle name and a nod to the beauty and complexity found in ordinary things.

See, Jane isn’t so plain after all.

As a child, I wanted to grow up to be either an illustrator, a coloring book author (is that a thing?) or a paleontologist. Little did I know that as an adult, the adventure that comes from digging under the surface of things inspires my compositions, whether they're pictures or words.

As my mother would say, “We’ll see what we see by taking a look.” In the end, my favorite photos are shot in the moment, and my favorite stories are those that discover and celebrate both individual uniqueness and common threads.
